Lap RNY?????
I had Lap RNY on 11/12/04. Mortality rates only mean something when it applies to the surgeon you pick.. so that's a statistic you need to get from him or her, when you decide.
I originally thought I wanted to have a lap band.. but I decided since the lap band procedure was so new, there wasnt' enough long term data available to give me a clear indication of mortality or success/failure. I also didn't like the idea of having a foreign object "installed" and I knew if there was a way for me to "get around it" (i.e., not getting it filled or not dumping), I would.
RNY was a much more proven procedure (IMO) long term and it was permanent.. that meant I could always use the tool and my changes couldn't be easily undone.. my chances (because of how I knew my habits were) of success were much greater with RNY.
I was on the table for about 2hrs and in the hospital from the 12th through the 15th. The only reason I didn't go home first thing in the morning on the 15th was that I didn't have a ride home until 5pm.
I have had no complications and many of the changes were immediate (like my healing time increased dramatically -- it used to take me weeks to heal cuts or scrapes.. it was down to a few days immediately after surgery).
I don't regret my decision to have RNY one bit.

Hi Tamra
As I have often said........I would do it again in a parking lot.....my surgery was 56 minutes Lap RNY........17 months and 107 pounds lighter....I was in the hospital day of surgery plus 2........I had no complications....none!! I had no desire for lap band.......I wanted the security that it was not foreign/new/experimental......Good luck along your journey..........Patti
