Help Please!
I think most of you know I had surgery on Tuesday May 31st and had a pretty rough go of it. They had to give me two units of blood and my pressure dropped dramatically. I really don't have any pain....that is gas pain, but a had a rough night last night I just can't get comfortable, going from the recliner to the bed back and forth, I am just exhusted. I am drinking juice and broth basically for my meals and adding some unflavored unjury powed to to add some protein. I am going to make some jello in a while with protein that I will add to it also. I have someone out buying me high protein boost or ensure for meals also to help.
I was wondering I know you guys aren't the doctor, but do you think I can drink 4 oz. of an Isopure juice drink as a meal? and will that then help get in protein? In between I am sipping on plain water.
I don't see the doctor until Thursday and when I called and got the doctor on call he just kept telling me to follow the book......not alot of help.
I need to get this out and ask. I don't get back to you thanks for any and all responses, I am just so tired.
Alan
Hi Alan.. welcome home and glad you're feeling better..
This soon out, you don't need to worry quite so much about the protein.. yes, it's important.. and you should plan your "meals" to include protein (I lived on 1/2 a High Protein Boost per meal for my first week and 1/2 home).. the Isopure should be fine for a "meal" -- the direction I got from Susan (the nutritionist) was anything with calories and protein is your meal.. anything without (or very low.. like crystal light or plain jello or other drinks) is snack.
Focus right now on getting your water in.. your greater danger this soon is dehydration -- so make sure you're staving that off by getting in as much water as you can. Like she said in the nutrition class.. it's possible to get in all tha****er in a day.. you just have to schedule yourself for your full 8 hrs or "awake time" -- and I did. Literally, I had a timer I set in 1/2hr increments (it's digital) and I'd set it and keep an eye on it and get 4oz in every 1/2 hr.. then would set it for "before meal" and "meal time" and "after meal" half hours.. and start again.. it was monotonous (and I hate schedules) but it worked.
If you've ever got a question about food or how you can or should eat.. definitely call the nutritionist directly. She's really good about calling back. If you don't have her number or extension, email me and I'll get it to you when I get home tonight. I have it sitting right next to my computer.
You're going to do great, Alan.. I'm so happy for you!!
