Hi Everyone, I live in Plainfield, IL. The closest support group I found was meeting at Edwards Hospital in Naperville. Edwards has not done the WLS in over a year and they have decided last month was the last meeting Does anyone know of a support group in this area? If not, what does one have to do to start one? I would love to do so, if we don't have anything out here.... Take care, Kathy 330/299/159

I can't help with the location, but I was once told that as long as you have a basement and the people that want to come, you can start a support group! Ask at your church or school if they can lend you a room, start a mailing list - either via e-mail or snail mail, get some fliers to the Dr's offices (even PCP's), advertise in the paper (sometimes for non-profit things it's free in the 'community calendar' section). If you build it, they will come!

Kathy, We have some at Central DuPage Hospital- I don't think you had to have your surgery here in order to participate. There are 3 groups: General, Post-Op, and Nutritional. Go online to the hospital website under "Support Groups" for more information!

Kathy, That was what I was going to suggest! Central DuPage Hospital. The Post opps meet on the 3rd Monday of the month, Nutrition support is the 3rd Wednesday of the month...The general is on the 1st Monday (i beleive). I haven't been to one due to schedule issues, but am planning on going next month. Otherwise i was thinking of trying to start up as support group! Wheaton is a long way baby!!! I work out that way but live in romeoville. So I don't want to get home at 4:30 to have to turn around and go back to Wheaton for a 6:30 meeting! But ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. I heard there were meetings at a Hospital in Joliet, but I thought that it was solely for all who had their surgeries there. We can always car pool!!! I am going to start the Bariatric Exercise program next week thru Central DUPage Hospital. I want to do the Aquatic Exercises...I love the water! Let me know what you think!? xoxoxojenn

Kathy - I am going to have surgery at St. Josephs in Joliet. I know that they have a support group. They meet the third Monday of the month. I am not sure what time, I think 6:30. I keep saying I want to get a support group meeting but I have not made one yet. Let me know if you think you can or want to go to the one in June. I am definately going to that one, I already have a babysitter lined up! Good luck, Nancy
