I am thinking of having the RNY procedure. However, I currently do not have any kids and would like to have kids in the future. Has anyone had any problems with pregnancy after having the RNY procedure?

Mari, I had a coworker who had wls and she was able to conceive and had a normal pregnancy. She did have issues w/a hernia that was pushed up b/c of the baby...but by all means the babe was born healthy and happy. Hope this helps. xoxoxojenn

So not a problem! One other thing you need to keep in mind....for some cases the more obese a women is the harder it is for her to get pregnant and to have a healthy pregnancy. I have been overweight for years and have 3 children. The last two pregnancies I was way overweight and had complication. Both were premature and the majority of the time I was on bedrest! It is so hard when this weighs on your mind! Best of luck. I think there is a thread or a message board dealing with this.. xoxoxojenn

My surgeon said that 18 months to 2 years after surgery you could get pg. HE worries about nutrition for the baby before that. There is a board on this sight that is for pg after WLS, they may be of more help. To find the board I think you can go to communities at the top of the page.

18-24 months is the norm that I heard for getting pregnant PO. Now, there have been many people that have gotten preggo before that time, because accidents happen or in the case of a girl I know she planned it because she was getting older. Many people do just fine. In fact the girl I know was about 1 year out, got preggo had her baby about Christmas time and is doing great, loosing the weight just fine. Good luck and I am glad to hear that your family is behind you with support.

Hi Mari , I had this surgery at a relatively young age most people would say. I too was worried about the future and being able to have children and so forth. My surgeon cured me of those rfears right away by having me go to one of his support meetings. I met multiple women who have been out from surgery ranging from 5years to 1 year who have had pregnancies. Infact my sister had this surgery because she needed the weightloss in order to have a healthier pregnancy. My doctor also advised me before and many many times after surgery ...that it sometimes becomes easier to have children after surgery. Personally he felt that pregnancy after surgery occured very often and easier for some women. Once again my doctor (like others have posted) said that he would want us to wait at least 18 months before becoming pregnant). ~Sas Best of Luck! 1 year after surgery my big worry is about breast feeding after having a breast lift ....theres always something on the mind
