Im new in Northern IL looking for others to talk to.
I am 28 years old and I have been overweight my entire life. I have researched and thought about WLS for several years now but have been too scared to do it. Just recently I pulled a muscle in my back and because of my weight it is taking forever to heal. I have now decided that I am more scared of continuing to live like this. I am looking for other members that live in Northern IL to chat with. I would love to meet other people that are in the same boat as I am. I have an excellent supportive husband but as you might know it is easiest with someone who knows what you are going through to be supportive. All replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Jennifer!
Welcome aboard!! I think one of the best things you can do right now is go to one of the support groups in the area. I just went to one last night at Highland Park Hospital, and was amazed at the amount of info I came away with.
There are also groups in Buffalo Grove, Evanston and Glenview. Check the "Events" listing to the left of this post, under "Resources in Illinois". It will give you the dates, times and information on all support groups.
As a newly post-op person, who has had an excellent recovery so far, you may want to check out my profile. Feel free to email anytime!

Hi Jennifer,
I am from Northern, IL. I had my surgery done at Alexian Brothers. It has been 6 months since surgery, I am down 110 pounds. I had come to a point in my life as well where I had to do something.
I suggest doing alot of research and making the best decision that is right for you! Please email me any time if you would like to chat.
Michele
I smiled when I read your post. You've been overweight your "entire life" of 28 years. Boy, I wish I had had the opportunity for this surgery when I was 28. It would have prevented a lot of pain and agony. You are so right to be considering the surgery now and you have such a mature outlook on the whole thing. You are right that you don't want to continue "to live like this." I have had a great experience with my doctor and no complications. He is at the WISH Center in Downers Grove, which may be a little far for you. But there are many fine surgeons in Chicago, so you should do just fine.
