Anyone have Dr. Shayani in Maywood??
Tamra I think Dr. Shayani is a pompous ass to be frank. I have talked to many surgeons I wanted the lap band shayani was the first surgeon I went too. He said and I quote " Your not a candidate for this because your hiatal hernia is to big, it will cause the band to slip and lodge in the diaphram, BUT if you want it i will do it" Now my brother is a surgeon my mother a nurse I have a medical background.. my response to him was "wow how brave of you with all the malpractice suits going on I'd think you would have just passed me up" LOL I wouldnt let him put stitches in my cat. I did get one more opinion on the band and that was by Dr. Fred who told me.. "There is no way I will do the band on you due to your existing hernia issues".. I have a hernia and had seriously bad GERD.. he said to do the RNY it will fix the hernia and the GERD and you will lose weight.. win win all around.. My brothers partner (he does WLS) agreed with him so I went to Dr. Fred.. he was honest and truly wanted what was best for me..
GOod luck in your decision
Debby
Debbie, Thanks so much for your imput. I really appreiciate it!!! I think i will rethink him and find a different doc. I am having a hard time finding one in my area that takes the medicaid card. I had a consult scheduled with Dr. RAy in Indiana but had to cancel due to my son haveing came up with rheumatic fever and now they say i have to wait another 6 months before they will get me in. I am hoping to find another doc, so i dont have to wait that long. ANy insight you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Tammy
Hello, I also am having my surgery done with Doctor Shayani and I've had my consultation on April 19 and He was a very nice person and seemed to answer a lot of my questions , he's very direct and straight to the point. I've read a lot of nice personal comments in the hospital boards section on this site , I've just had my labs, ekg, pfts, and will have the rest of my test done at loyola this month. I also have medicaid and I do agree that it is hard too find a surgeon that will accept the insurance. Everyone's experience is totally different with any surgeon, What I suggest is you go to the seminar and schedule a consultation and see for yourself . THere's another Doctor there that accepts medicaid and her name is Dr. Sharker and she also was at the seminar and explained the pros and cons about the surgery. Be expected too see over 50 to 60 people there at the seminar and they also have a seminar at the end of the month where you can meet people that have been banded. So don't be discourage, GODs got your back.
