I'm so frustrated with myself right now. I know I need to stop being a scale-a-holic, but it's driving me crazy that it's not moving... or worse sometimes it fluctuates up a pound or two! Take a deep breath... in ... out.... grrrr How are you all doing?!

I know how you feel, I've been on that damn thing EVERY SINGLE DAY since I had surgery 2 weeks ago. My scale hasnt moved but 1 lb in the last week and its really getting to me. Totally depressing. I keep asking my husband, did I have this surgery to lose 21 lbs??lol I hope like hell I lose some more. I measure everything out(1/4 cup) and have been doing everything like I need to, so I dont know what the deal is. Besides a ****ty metabolism. You'll be fine, you've done great so far! Now lets both of us go hide these damn scales..lol

Congrats Lora on the 21 pounds!! I always joke that I'm going to keep my scale in my car, that way at least when i want to weigh myself I'll get some exercise going out to get it! (I live on the third floor)!

. Hi Lora, I swore I wouldn't be a slave to the scale, but I'm finding that I am...... I was 299 day of surgery - 4/6. On my first post-op visit 4/12 I was 293. At my 1 week post-op 4/13 I was 292. I decided to check 4/14 because I was going into work to pick up something, and I had lost FOUR POUNDS in one day! 288 Then I weighed Friday 4/15 and I was 286. From Friday until today it sat at 286. Today 4/19 I'm 285. That's a total of 14 pounds lost since surgery - I'm not thrilled with the slow rate of loss - but on the other hand, there's no way I could have lost 14 pounds in two weeks on my own!!! I've seen two modes of thought in following the scale on a daily basis. One type says not to do it or you'll make yourself crazy. The other type says to do it as you can track your progress better. My chart is set up for weekly updates - I'm not sure what to do. I do kind of think that if I weigh on a daily basis, I will see anytime it goes up, and can then check to see what I ate that day or the previous day to see what the increase was caused by..... What do you think? Dayna 310/285/110

Hi Brooke and Lora! You guys are right.. you're going to drive yourselves bananacakes on that scale -- especially this soon out. I'm also a scale-a-holic.. but I only record whatever weight I am on Thursday or Sunday, depending on if I remember to check on Thursday. (so see.. it gets better). If it helps.. take a look at my profile. At the bottom of the page is a list of my weigh ins.. you'll see there are times when I go up and down and stay the same, too.. I've gone as much as 5wks staying about a pound or two away from the last lowest weight I had.. and yeah, it's frustrating as heck.. but I have a little secret, too. My brother, being a geek-wad engineer, watches my profile for those updates every week.. and then he enters them in on a spreadsheet he created for me.. it gives him a graph that shows my progress. He emailed that to me about a week ago and I tell you what.. it sure makes those stall weeks easier to live with to be able to see the pattern my body makes on a graph. It eases the frustration a LOT! If you want, I can see if I have the template and I'll send it to you.. then you can create your own graph with your own numbers and see what your pattern is, too. Let me know! Stef

Hi Brooke, I know it is hard but you gotta give yourself a break from the scale, try to only weigh yourself once a week if you must and first thing in the morning. It is normal for your weight to fluctuate up and down a little, throughout the week and even throughout the day. I also know that it is frustrating when it seems the it has not gone down in a couple of weeks but give it time and it will begin to move again. - That being said I am also addicted to the scale...lol...but I am learning not to let the number bother me so much. All I can say is don't worry about it, worry about eating right and taking care of yourself. I had been on a plateau for about a month when I changed some of my eating habits, namely cutting back on my pretzel intake, and have since started to go down again. Anyway if you get really frustrated you could try throwing the scale out the window...lol...just make sure no one is stand below. Lisa

Oh Brooke darling - at one point, I had to PHYSICALLY REMOVE the scale from my house - my mother had custody of it for several months. Please know that it is NORMAL to become obsessed with watching the numbers decline...I have the counseling bills to prove it (lol - my wonderful Dr Crane is very knowledgeable with WLS patienst). You are doing wonderfully! We are all so very proud of you. Minor plateaus seem like a big thing at the time (and trust me, I know, I have a HUGE obsessive tendency) - but in 6 months, you'll look back and be so damned happy! Best wishes!
