Hi All! I was just wonder...
Hi All! I was just wondering, when you were first out of surgery, how much food/water were you able to get down??
My surgeon say 6-8 small meals a day and my liquids(64 oz further out)but get what I can now.
Ok.. I am having a HELL of a time getting in all those meals a day. Honestly, I'm fighting to get it 3 a day. I just feel soooooo full for hours afterwards. I'm getting in about 24-32 oz of liquids a day.. is that too much for just 1 week out?? Oh and the protein drinks, I'm also having a hard time with those, it takes me all day to drink just 1 ... is that bad??lol
Any help would be appreciated.
hi Laura,
How's it going? I can't wait to begin this journey with you, but i won't be far behind. I don't know about the amounts of food and drink, but I did want to tell you that if the protein that you are drinking is a "mix" of some sort, that after awhile, it starts to break down, not sure on the time frame, but I know i read that somewhere.
My surgeon/bariatric group program suggest only eating 3 meals, and inbetween doing the protein shakes then. Good luck.
Kristi
Hi Kristi!! I'm doing great!! Feel wonderful and I am sooo glad I did this. Although I am getting tired of the full liquids. I'm actually looking forward to the blended part of this..lol
The protein drinks I've been using are the already made ones, Atkins, EAS Advant Edge Carb Control , I've got a million other ones I got off of freecycle 2 days before my surgery.
to me the 6-8 meals just sounded like wayyyy too much. And I was figuring, if I had to do the 6-8, your eating what about every 2 hours. Then you cant drink for 30 minutes before and 1 hr after eating. When in the world would I have time to get my liquids in???lol
Thats what is stressing me out.. and it doesnt take much, trust me..lol
I guess when I go in tomorrow to get my drain out(YEAHHH) I'll ask the nurse what she thinks.
I cant wait til you have your surgery!!! Not too much longer to go!! Congrats!@
Hi Lora!
I had the same problem. My doc suggested 5 - 6 meals per day.. and by the end of my full liquids phase, it was all I could do to get in three meals (usually between 4 and 5oz of liquid each).
Your fluids are fine.. it would be GREAT if you were able to get in ALL of your recommended 64oz right now.. and some people do.. but your doc says get in what you can.. so do what you can.. sip sip sip.. whenever you're not eating.. or waiting before or after a meal.. have tha****er bottle close at hand.. it's a gradual process.. my own nutritionist told us it was possible to get in all 64oz a day but that meant literally following a schedule.. I had to set an alarm for all my meals.. and each hour left in the day that I wasn't eating or waiting, I had to get 8oz in.. I don't think I ever managed it but I tried!!
I also had a lot of trouble drinking just plain water in the early stages.. so I usually drank crystal light or SF tang.. or even brewed decaf tea ****d or hot).. at least that way I wasn't gagging on the taste of the water..
It sounds like you're doing so great! Congratulations!!
Stef

Hi Lora,
I'm SOOOOO Glad to see you're doing well!!! My surgery was a day after yours, and right now I'm on a 6 meal schedule, and I think it's very hard to do as well.
I preferred the 4 oz an hour routine, believe it or not, because that's about all I can handle. I've just been sipping as much as I can. I've started on SF pudding and strained lowfat cream soup. Haven't tried putting milk in it yet - may do that tonight.
Right now, are you still on full liquids? I am, and I just try to follow the schedule as best as I can -- although it seems like I'm ALWAYS eating or drinking
Good luck with the rest of your journey, and feel free to email me anytime!!!!
