Liquid Diet
Hi all, well today is Day 5 of my 7 day liquid diet. OMG, that means surgery is just a few days away!! Can't wait.
The liquid diet is going okay I guess, I do get hungry, but then I have a protien shake or some jello. I've tried not to have to do any cooking for the family. I did that the first night, that was hard now. I just have to get through the next couple of days.
I know it will all be worth it in the long run, I'm almost ready to start getting rid of my "fat" winter clothes, cause i know it won't be getting used again by this chicky. but i'll have lots of time to clean closets while i'm off work with the surgery.
talk with all later

Kristi,
I have to tell you.. about a month after surgery, I purged nearly 10 full lawn bags of old clothes I knew I'd never wear again (yeah, I'm a clothes horse)..
It felt SO GOOD!! And I was up at Carson's this weekend looking at their sale stuff.. some beautiful suits and separates.. great prices.. but I had to keep reminding myself that I couldn't buy them because by next fall/winter, they wouldn't fit!
You sound so excited!! I can't wait til you come sit on our bench!!!

Hi Jeanne:
My surgery was 3/31 at U. of I. I posted the same question regarding the liquid diet. It bothered me so much that I asked two different surgical nurses and the response I got was, it basically prepares you mentally for reduced food consumption after surgery. It helps you to transition into a new way of life. The liquid diet also reduces the size of the liver which makes lap-band placement easier as well as depletes your body's glycogen stores. To be honest since all phycisicans didn't require it I figured that it wasn't an absoulte necessity. Basically, your first big weight loss is a result of being on the liquid diet for basically 4-8 weeks (pre-and post op) depending on the phycisian. Keep in mind that although the lap-band has been inserted, it is not filled for 4-6 weeks. So yes, your stomach size is reduced however, not enough to justify the weight loss in the first two months which is by and large attributable to the liquid diet. So either way the liquid diet is a good thing!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps!!!!!
Hope this helps.
Hi, I don't know about the mental aspect of the liquid diet, but from a medical standpoint, the biggest reason for the liquids is to reduce the amount of fat surrounding your liver, during the surgury procedure, especialy when it is done laporscopically, this helps then to be able to see and work on the stomach and intestines more easily.
