First of all thanks to all of you who offered such great support! I wasn't able to get online until today & am still very tired & in allot of pain so I unfortunately won't be able to answer everyone individually yet. But thank you, your support means so much to me. My surgery was "textbook" (quote from Dr. Frantzides who is the best surgeon with the best team!). In recovery, my sugar got way out of control in the hospital (up to 250) and I had to have allot of insulin, but other than that nothing out of the ordinary. Evanston hospital was great. Had a private room & my husband was able to stay with me (made things so much nicer & he didn't snore nearly as much as I was afraid he would). I did have a couple incidences of throwing up blood upon returning home. Likely due to some sort of ulceration. I can't take fruit juice or water with lemon b/c of the acids and the bleeding I had earlier. Dr. F's office prescribed some liquid that I have to take 4 times a day which has helped a great deal. I really think it was the Darvocet pills that caused it so I took myself off of them (with Dr.'s okay). Only downside is the amount of pain I'm in now w/ no pain meds but there weren't really any other pain med options for me b/c of pre-existing pain med allergies. So the pain is still bad, but I know things are healing well. I've progressed on to soft foods. Started out with milky-tea (Thanks Karen!!!) which really was the turning point for my starting to feel better. It was truly a Godsend. I'm now able to handle cottage cheese and Lite and Fit yogurt as well. The only thing I'm having trouble with is water. I constantly crave huge glasses of cold water but can barely even handle an ounce of it - makes me feel much more full than food. So I'm constantly thirsty...only getting about 16-20 oz in a day of tea and water. Anyone know if this is normal? Oh yeah, and I'm down about 20 lbs. Not in my belly area I might add...I think I may possibly have lost it in my feet as all my shoes now feel much loser.

Hey Kathy! Dr. F mentioned you while I was in the hospital and I was like "what?" since I hadn't gotten your message. Yeah, calling & hospital and asking for Jenny M. probably would have gotten some interesting responses but thanks for thinking of me!!! It's McClain, in case the situation ever comes up again. I used to have it on my profile but felt wierd when I googled myself and all my obesityhelp.com posts showed up so I changed it to M.. I'm feeling even better today although I think the much dreaded constipation may be kicking in. Time to start the flax seed oil.

Jenny, I know exactly what you mean about the water. I still have a hard time with it even though I am so thirsty. I also had a really hard time with pain meds and threw up blood in the hospital. I had wls on March 15 which isn't much sooner than you but if you have any questions I will be glad to help you with them. Lori

Thanks Lori, it's good to hear I'm not alone. I'm so thirsty all the time. Especially if I eat anything like cottage cheese (Salty) or pudding (sweet). The only thing that helps is drinking an ounce of milky-tea....1 part milk to 7 parts decaf lipton tea w/ a bit of splenda. It goes down alot easier than the water. It's not quite as thirst quenching but at least it keeps me hydrated. I have heard about how after surgery allot of people have food dreams. I have a recurring dream about downing a whole ice cold Fiji water bottle in one sitting. I miss being able to gulp down the water!!! I hope this improves at some point or it's going to be a long long summer.
