Please remind me why no ADVIL

Hi Everyone I need a reminder why we cannot take ADVIL. Last night I had a horrific toothache and tylenol just didnt do anything at all. I took advil knowing I am not supposed to but cannot remember why. It worked. So what have I damaged by taking it? Colleen

Hi hon Advil is (Ibuprofen) which is in the family of NSAIDS which we are not supposed to take after surgery as they can cause ulcers. Even in those who don't have WLS. If you still have pain, I would call your Dr and ask what else you can take safely, if tylenol won't work Hugs...Chelle

I KNOW I am not supposed to take NSAIDs but I don't think I ever knew why. I have a dentist appointment set up - after a life time of ibuprofen - tylenol just doesnt do anything. Does anyone take something other that actually works??? Colleen

My surgeon told me the risk of taking advil is so low, that if that is all there is that gives you relief to go ahead a take it. Talk to your doctor. My surgeon told me there weren't any pills/medicines I couldn't take after surgery. Ed

Thanks Ed I am going to ask the doctor - last night i would have taken lighter fluid if it would have made the pain go away. Colleen
