Looking for support

I am wanting to have the lap band surgery, as i am about 5'5 and 380lbs. I have just started this process of finding a surgeon and all the insurance stuff, if anyone out there who has had the lap band or is scheduled to have it can give me any insight into it or tell me about their experience, it would be greatly appreciated as i am very scared about this surgery, but have tried all diets and have been big all my life and know that this is the only way. Desperately hoping to talk to someone in my shoes or who has been in my shoes, Thanks and hope to hear from someone soon. Take care and God bless

Tamra, I had the lap band done in January. Everything went smoothly and I am very happy with my choice. Bandsters lose weight at a slower rate than people that have RNY but in the long run, the weight loss is the same. I have lost 30 pounds in 8 weeks and several inches all over my body. I feel great. You do have to get the band adjusted for optimal weight loss, but that is no big deal. I started out at 342 pounds and the doc seems to think that I will have no problem reaching a goal weight of 185-190. It can be done, many people have lost a lot of weight with the band.
