United Health Care PPO
Juli, I looked up your doctor in the directory on this site and it shows 3 people that have your insurance. You can go in and look to see what they said about their insurance. Just keep in mind that all policies have different things in their policy so just because they might have been approved it does not mean that you will be covered under your individual policy. The best bet is to call them and ask if you are covered and what their requirements are. But, beware sometimes the people on the phone do not know what they are talking about. It is best to contact your HR department and ask them if it is a covered benefit.
I also recently switched jobs and have UHC Options PPO. My company uses a third party (SHPS) to do the pre-determination. In order to be covered it must be medically necessary as determined by co-morbidities and BMI. In addition they do require a psychologist clearance. I just started the approval process so I'm not really sure how well it works, but the person I spoke to at SHPS had an RNY about 2 years ago and credits it with saving her life. When I last spoke to her on the 24th she was due to go in for her plastic surgery consult.
I'm taking all this as a good sign. Right now I'm in the process of doing all my pre-work etc. and obtaining my note from my endo/obesity Dr. & I am tentatively scheduled for surgery for March 30th but until I get the official thumbs up from UHC, I won't let myself believe it.
I go in for most of my appointments on the 10th and 11th, so hopefully I should have a clearer picture by then.
