Julie, I went to Dr. Diana Barrar over at Alpine and Guilford. She's a certified hypnotist and I knew some people who'd had luck with her. That was over 6 years ago, and I never had another cigarette after the first session with her. BUT, I will tell you this. No matter what method you choose, you have to want to quit, otherwise it will never work. It doesn't matter if you use gum, the patch or quit cold turkey, they'll all work as long as you're ready. Seems like it was $85 but I'm not sure how much it costs now. If you go to her website at barrarhypnosis.com/coupons.htm you'll see some coupons and how to contact her.

I found that Wellburtine, chewing lots of gum and eating everything in sight helped me to quit before surgery. I did that without the nicotine gum or patch because they said no nicotine period. I was fine until I got home after surgery. I started back two days after I got back home from the hospital.
They did not check to see if I had nicotine in my system. They just asked me. It would be a good idea not to smoke before surgery because it will be harder on your lungs. You have to do a lot of deep breathing after surgery and smoking might make you cough more and that hurts.
