I walked for 2 hours- two towns away, and disappointed.
I am in training for my AVON walk for breast cancer in June. http://www.avonwalk.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=1090&px=1574844
So I braved the cold and left my house and headed down RT 45 through all of Bourbonnais (I live on the north tip), through Bradley and into Kanakakee. I called my hubby and he came to get me. On the way home we checked the trip odometer. Amazingly it was only 5.1 miles. I was thrilled at what I had accomplished, but then disappointed to see how little it was in milage. For my walk it is 26.2 miles the first day and 13.1 the second.
Heather, I looked to see when the walk is and I think that you should be ok with your training. Just continue to build up your distance but I would recommend that you train at least 6 days a week and start going longer distances and build your endurance like maybe going up a lot of hills. Do you belong to a gym? Start using their walking track or a treadmill. Maybe you can stair climb in a tall building. Or do you have any forest preserves near you? They have some good paths in them. How about walking in a mall near you or driving to one and walking in one? A lot of malls have programs where they have a whole course layed out of distances etc. Check into it, I know the local malls (Woodfield, Stratford Square) by me have programs. I know that it is a distance (my malls) from you but there should be something down your way. What about Joliet, is that near you? Good luck.
