Which support group are you talking about? The saturday morning one?
It is mainly for pre-ops and new post-ops. They do have a 3+month post op support group also, have you tried that one? It is just for post ops and meets once a month on Fridays. I had my surgery there also but I am almost 3years post-op. Email me anytime.
Brittany, there is a small support group that has spun off of the Kane support group that meets at the Itasca Library. My husband and I have gone many times. IT IS FREE. It meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month and is called POSTIES. They used to meet on the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday but the lady that kind of moderates the group emailed all of us last week and said that they were dropping the Tuesday meeting because of low attendance. I have not been going to the group in a while because I was just too burned out from support groups because I was meeting weekly with a patient group from WISH, I needed a break. I have a printed schedule if you would like it faxed to you, I have it at work but could bring it home on Monday and get you a copy so you have the dates of all the meetings through August.
In regards to the Itasca library group, it is a group of men and women, more women maybe 6 at the most that meet and are in various stages of being PO. Newbies to people several years out. So there is a good mix. You can ask questions or just plain interact with the rest of the people and tell how you are handling a problem that someone else talks about. It is a private room so there are not other library patrons that are staring at us and we can talk freely. If you would like to go on a Wednesday let me know and I can be there with you so you do not feel so new and alone. The library is at 500 W Irving Park Rd, right at the traffic signal for Irving Park Rd and Catalpa Ave. If you need more directions or want to talk you can e-mail me and I can give you my phone number and we can talk a little, only if you feel comfortable. ps, my husband had his surgery with Dr Rantis so I am familiar with the Kane support group. I started out with Kane Jr but, long story I ended up at WISH.
