Kym, I had Dr. Peter Rantis, Jr. At Suburban Surgical Care Specialists, they have offices in Elk Grove Village and Arlington Heights. There are five surgeons. I've had the best of care. I have had five surgeries since my rny, none related to the WLS, and could not have gotten better care anywhere. 847-255-9697. D

I went through the WISH Center and my husband went through Suburban Surgical Care like one of the other posters said she did, in fact he had Dr Rantis also. Long story why he went to him, basically due to insurance. You will find that any of the bariatric centers in the Chicago area are good. They have good before and after care programs. Though I am predudice because I went to WI****hink they are the best. Look for a surgeon that has a support group and good support from the staff at the doctor's office. You will get that at WISH. You will not have to go all over the place for your appointments like you do with Dr Rantis. My exercise, dietician, psych doctor and the surgeon were all at the same place and for your first and subsequent appointments you see them one right after the other at your appointments. My first appointment took 5 hours (common because you are seeing all the professionals), but it was worth it. There is also presurgical medical testing done at you first appointment plus presurgical education at the first two appointments. The first thing that you should do is go to a free seminar that many of the doctors offer, that would be the first step. If you have any other questions, just ask. PS, my doctor's name is Dr Jeffrey Rosen, great sense of humor puts you right at ease and he knows his stuff!

I have not had surgery yet, but I had my consultation with Dr. Joseph Vitello at UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) on Taylor street in Chicago. I was VERY impressed with both him and his statistics. 95% of his surgeries are RNY and he has done about 1000 of them. Good luck to you! Ed

Kym, several of us have been to Barix in Belvidere, with either Dr. Vaughn or Dr. Boe. The facility is excellent, as is the care. Click to the left on Bariatric surgeons and you can read some reviews. Terry

My surgeon was also Dr. Gerald Cahill out of Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, IL. I VERY highly recommend him. Not only is he a great surgeon, but he has a staff that I can not speak highly enough about. They also have a free seminar that you can attend. Gracie posted all of his info above. Good luck on your journey! Mellisia
