Yes I have both, they put me on the Zpack and prednisone 5 day pack. ER doc says they both should be ok with my pouch just to be sure I eat something when I take them... Pharmacist says these can't be crushed because they wont be as effective. YES I am calling my surgeon before I start taking them this morning.. Has anyone had totake any of this post op. I am 2 months out.. I HATE HAVING ASTHMA!!! every freaking year I get this crap!!! Debby 302/245/155

Deb -- you shouldn't have any trouble taking an uncrushed pill by now.. I've had the ZPack pre-op.. (and man is it powerful!!).. let us know what your surgeon says..... I hope you feel better soon! Stef

Zpack is time release, so it's not supposed to be crushed, however, I wonder if you'll get the full effect of it - if it will absorb OK? The surgeon should be able to answer that. The prednisone are small enough, I'd just take them whole. And they aren't coated. Warning - the Zpack (Zithromax) give me HORRIBLE diarrhea... so, just be prepared! It does work though, I've had it for sinus infections. Also, if you're prone to yeast infections (I know, TMI) - eat yogurt!!!!

Hi Debby~ I just finished a z-pak and it worked great while I was taking them. I'm not sure it cleared everything up because I've still got a nasty cough and am having to use my inhaler more frequently ****il last week I hadn't used the damn thing but once since my surgery). Hope you get to feeling better soon Cathy

Deb..the sustained release doesnt make any difference with the pouch..as per my surgeon, anyway. But the prednisone is an anfi-inflammatory, right? and those are hard on pouchie arent they? Betta be checkin into that, sista!!! THE GOOD NEWS: I had bronchitis and asthma since age 18....used my rescue inhaler @2x per day. When I had my PFTS pre op, the dr said I should be on something like advair for daily maintainence. I also got pneumonia every year for about 4 years once I passsed @230lbs. HOWEVER, since I've had surgery I havent used my inhaler ONCE, and have had exactly one cold THE WHOLE TIME...and it DID NOT SETTLE IN MY CHEST, and never got as far as bronchitis!! THERE IS HOPE, chick!!
