Is something wrong with me?
I posted this on the main board, but I wanted to get your opinions too:
I can't igure out if I have something wrong with my or if it is just part of the healing. I have a VERY hard time keeping down food. Chicken, ham, cheese, eggs and even water all will not stay down in any form. However food that we are not supposed to be eating, like soda, bread, crackers, cold cereal all stay down without a problem. Yesterday I was able to eat and keep down without a problem 2 jelly filled donut holes and a handfull of popcorn we had hanging around the office.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to fall into my old habits this tool is supposed to help me.

Lauren ~ You definitely sound like you have a problem holding down the GOOD food - I would try soft/pureed foods like cottage cheese, low sugar yogurt, no sugar added apple sauce, sugar free pudding, crystal light, sugar free koolaid, chicken broth...and the ever present protein drinks/supplements. Definitely NOT jelly filled donut holes!
At first I was concerned you could have a stricture or some other complication (especially if you have difficulty with water), but since you hold down some foods, I'm not so concerned.
You must must must must must get your water in. Try it in different forms (kool aid, crystal light, decaf tea) and different temperatures - I have a hard time with ice cold beverages even after 18 months.
Best wishes for continued success on your WLS journed - 38 pounds is a PHENOMENAL weight loss!
I can't keep down the Crystal Lite, Kool-aid or even Jello any more. That is one of the reasons that the Surgeon said to go ahead with ginger ale. At least I am getting some fluids down that way.
I am a part of a support group, and we have talked about sweets. All of the other members talked about dumping with even a bit of candy or a cookie. Why I wanted to do that, I have no idea, but something just made me take those little fat pills have have to try them.
So far what I have been able to keep down is: Oatmeal, peanut butter, cereal bars, crackers, cold cereal, refried beans with the insides of a beef taco, salad, bagels, and sometimes instant cream of chicken soup.
I have tried chicken and turkey in many forms, including stews and the insides of a chicken pot pie, eggs and egg white omeletts, cheese sticks, yougurt, protein shakes, ham, beef stew, veggie beef soup, and chedder cheese soup. None of these will stay down for more then 10 minutes. I am not supposed to eat dairy products, and since surgery the rashes they cause have moved to my back from other points on my body that they have always cropped up.
I have talked weekly with the nutritionist, she is even on speed dial on my cell phone, but she can't figure out what is going on.
Lauren every surgeon and his rules are different, I had to do 2 weeks clear fluids only, then 3 weeks full fluids then pureed. I noticed if I tried to push what I was eating it set me back a few days where I'd have to go back to clears again... I learned not to pu**** I was at one time able to eat eggs can't eat them now they just dont work.. Don't push your food is all the advice I can give you.. make sure if your eating chicken that its really moist if its to dry it will cause a problem.
Also I am not going to flame you for trying the bad foods... but if you try them and find you do not dump your setting yourself up for trouble. I make it a point not to every put anything in my mouth that 1) can cause dumping 2) that I like!!! LOL
Good luck you'll be ok!!

Hi Lauren!
I have to say, why did you even try those things?! LOL I know that I can eat pretty much anything and man am I sorry I know that. LMAO
Anyway, I gave this analogy to my mom and I'm hoping that it can help you out.
Think of the things you are supposed to eat like a ladder. First rung is clear liquids, second is full liquids, third is pureeds etc...
If you are climbing that ladder and things aren't going right, it's time to step back a rung. So if you are having a hard time with pureeds/soft foods, go back to full liquids. Your pouch just isn't ready.
We all go through phases where we find things we aren't ready to eat. Maybe things we'll never be able to eat. It's time to just take a step back and start to reintroduce slowly.
Have some cream soup or tomato soup. Maybe some yogurt or pudding for a day or two and then try something new.
And stay away from those things you know are bad for you. It's just gonna bite ya in the butt later. (She who has a bag of hershey kisses sitting right here. LOL)
