Sometimes surgeons and or insurance companies require this. It is to see if you can follow a program and make a life style change which you will have to do PO. I did not have to loose weight pre op but I did have to follow a program of writing down all my food, how long it took to eat, quantities, vitamins, water, exercise etc for 8 weeks. I lost a little weight, 6#. I was given a special food log sheets from the WISH Center to do this. I was really surprised when I went in for my pre surgical appointment a few weeks before my surgery I had a phobia of the scale pre op and did not weigh myself during that time, I wonder why I had a phobia? LOL Now the scale is my second best friend next to my husband. if you have anymore questions feel free to ask. Christine

I have a six month doctor supervised diet in addition to that six months of meeting with a dietician three times a month. That is all an insurance requirement. I am about half way through that process. Good luck, Nancy

I'm almost done with the 12 month required diet for bcbs. My surgeon requires 10 lb. loss to shrink the liver IF you are having a lap surgery. He doesn't require it for an open. Good luck, Sherry
