I am 20 months out and down 94#, I was a light weight to begin with and my goal is 111#. I had a set back on my journey to having my PS when my doctor did my blood work for the surgeon and found out that I have an overactive thyroid. I am eternally grateful to my internist that he did the thyroid profile because he saved my life by doing so. I could have had a heart attack on the op table with untreated overactive thyroid. It has been pure hell since I found out on Jan 12th living with the sypmtoms because they could not treat it before I had the tests to find out what it was. Two of the worst symptoms have been not being able to sleep
properly (even with taking Ambien) and I started to go into congestive heart failure. The tests that the doctor had done showed that I have Grave's disease and yesterday morning I went in and took a radioactive iodine capsule and that will kill off my thyroid and then it will probably render me hypoactive thyroid. I have been going through a lot of depression and that is out of character
for me because I am a very upbeat person. I have started seeking help for the depression with my surgeon's office, they have physc doctors on staff and I met with her on Thursday. I have found that I have to stay off of the computer to do any research for Grave's and overactive thyroid because it was causing the depression to get worse. So, I am back here with my OH friends to try and stay as upbeat as possible. The one good thing that I have learned is that I will probably not have a problem with weight gain (the thyroid controls metabolism) after I have killed off my thyroid because of the calorie intake that a PO WLSer takes in, woohoo! That info came from the physc doctor via one of the bariatric surgeons she spoke with before her and I had our session.
SO, FOLKS I AM BACK!!! Christine

WOW Christine!
I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this.
The internet can be a blessing and a curse for research. I completely understand why it would mess you up.
The one good thing is that you know and you're being treated. It's important to get well!
I hope all that you are going through will turn out positively and that you will be healthy soon.
HUGS
Melissa
