Hi Jason, nice pics. I've not had surgery yet, but while looking at your pictures it brought to mind a question. After surgery, can we drink alcohol? Beer, margaritas, wine coolers, whatever? And do we really become "cheap dates" as far as getting drunk very quickly. Thanks. Looks like you were having fun in your pictures. Kristi

I've had a few drinks since surgery and unfortunately, the fun is gone for me. I don't feel any of the "happy buzz" I use to get. I just go right into headache and sleepiness. I get all of the hangover with none of the buzz. I guess my drinking days are over.....

You have to be very careful after surgery how much alcohol you consume. It goes straight to your liver, being post op you can develop scirrosis quicker than normal.

I'm not sure this is true. Do you have documentation?

No, I probably could if I Googled it. I've heard of one woman, she was 36 that developed cirrosis post wls. Even without concrete evedence, I dont trust that alcohol wont harm us, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I don't have documentation - but I have problems with my liver. According to my gastroenterologist, I am to avoid alcohol - our digestive track has been altered and the alcohol isn't fully processed by the time it hits our liver, which can cause liver damage. Also keep in mind that fatty liver is common in the obese and that dramatic weight loss also takes its toll on the liver - as it processes the fat on its way out.
