Weight Gain
Hello, this is for all pre-op people. I'm am just wondering if i'm the only one or if this has happened to others. Knowing that the surgury is going to happen, did you qui****ching what you were eating, and begin to enjoy food knowing that many of the things you were putting into your mouth were soon never going to cross your lips again?
Thanks for any imput
Kristi
Hi Kristi
OMG, Did I ever. I ate everything and anything. I "Mourned" the foods. I know I'll be able to one day (year from now or longer) I'll be able to take a nibble. But still, I did gain weight. I weighed 261 in Sept. 04. By the time I went in for my Surgery I weighed 270!!!!! Go figure.
But you know what? I don't regret it. In fact I'm kinda glad I didn't have to lose weight before surgery like some people do. If you don't, I ENCOURAGE you to do it.
And eat a CANOLI for me...MMmmMM

I can make excuses all day long, but yes, i have gained 15 to 20 lbs. I did quit smoking. Hey!! 3 months now. but the sweets, OMG, rolls and donuts, M&M's, peanuts, popcorn, and pepsi. I know after surgery these are all things of the past. I've given them up so many times before on various diets, but this time will be for good after surgery.
And then, the most dreaded thought of all, what if i don't get approved. Oh **** if that happens. But i'm pretty sure it will go through. I work at a hospital that does the procedure, so they approve pretty quickly after all the criteria has been met. wish me luck

OMG YES!!
I went on what I like to refer to as my "last meal" diet.. every meal was different.. and the last of its kind..
I didn't necessarily overeat -- but if I wanted ice cream for dinner, that's what I had... and thankfully, I didn't gain weight pre-op .. I just stayed the same..
I have to agree with the person who posted ahead of me (sorry.. I can't remember who said it!).. I am glad I didn't restrict my foods before surgery. My tastes changed so dramatically and if I hadn't had them, I'd be wanting them now (even though they would not taste as good to me now).. I guess you could say it was like an extended "goodbye" for me.

Steph...
You are down 55 lbs already. GOOD FOR YOU!!!
Thanks for the reply, i would like to think the weight gain has leveled off for now. I know i'm not doing myself any favors by gaining it preop.
But my last meal will be a trip to the Outback Steakhouse. that will be about 10 day preop, so i can start the liquid diet after that.

HA!! My last meal was a big juicy steak, too!! With all the fixins.. the biggest one I could find!!
Man was it good..
The good news is, post-op, you'll find that your cravings will change.. and at some point in your life, you can likely have those things again -- but in "normal" proportions and much more infrequently than pre-op.
I'm currently mourning the loss of beef. Last night I dumped on a gorgeous and delicious filet mignon *sigh* -- I dumped for 4 1/2 hours.. couldn't even keep a popsicle down -- oh well.. another day perhaps.. but for now, beef and I will go our separate ways..
(thing I've learned to live with since surgery #436: what I can't have today, I might be able to have tomorrow, but maybe not the day after that!)
