help?
OK I need my OH family's help....
Is it normal for me to still be feeling so much pain? I have to take my pain meds pretty much every 4 hours...if I don't I'm in tears. I mean I have one hell of a time getting up off the couch by myself...it feels like my insides are being ripped up
. I have a lot of gas and it seems since yesterday afternoon I am starting to pass it but OMG the pain in my stomach area where my incision is and all around it...its hard, swollen and even numb feeling but yet it hurts like hell inside. I realize the muscles are weak and healing now but is it normal to still feel it this bad?
I also keep getting the hicups which pushes on my tummy too and hurts...what am I doing wrong?![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/mbgraphics/emoticons/shrug.gif)
Thank you in advance for your help!
~hugs~
Konni

Hey Konni
While everyone is different and can tolerate different levels of pain and such, you shouldn't be feeling nearly intolerable levels of pain with pain meds q4h. I'd say call, after all that is what they are there for and are not going to fault you for that - if they do ... lemme at'em. Make sure you're walking - that helps with the gas.
Let us know how you're doing later!
Hugz,
Cathy

Konni if you dont have a binder GET ONE! it will make a HUGE difference, any medical supply place should have one for you. IF you have open RNY yes you will probably still be feeling pain. which then again BINDER! once you get a binder it will help the strain on your muscles and you will start feeling better... IF you had laproscopic I would wonder why all the pain... But then everyone has different levels of pain they can handle for me Lap surgery was nothing open might be another story... Hang in there, and again BINDER!

It hurts to move, but the more you do (within reason) the sooner that gas pain will go away. Try holding a pillow over the incision when you're moving around the house. Drinking (and eating) VERY s l o w l y will also help avoid more pain as well as those hicups. Don't worry if you're not getting in as much as required at this point, but try to get in as much as you can.
You might be pulling on those muscles too much when you're getting off the couch. Remember you had your whole plumbing system rearranged just a few days ago and it's not going to let you forget it. You might try sleeping in your recliner instead the couch for a few days since it's less strain your tummy getting up and down.
And of course, as everyone else suggested, if you think something is really wrong, call your doc.
