went to my first appointment at comp

yesterday was my first appointment it was different for me everyone was very nice but it is hard for me to discuss my weight. I am glad I went and I will hold myself to this. They said It takes about a year before surgery. They also said I am a canadate for the lap band and put me on the waiting list now I don't know if that means I have to wait even longer or not. I like erin she didn't tell me what foods to or not to eat just no more caffiene, soda, and to drink more water i really like the shrink ( i can't rember her name maybe sandy) she was very nice but It was hard to talk about my life growing up and things of that sort. I had a couple wow moments that I guess deep down inside I knew. about my weight gain and that was emotional for me when it came out. I am excited about the meetings I am going the 3rd thursady at 9 am for one. It will be hard to make erins group because she is 2-4 and i live a hour and forty five min away. I will say this is the most confident i have been in a really longn time. I feel i have the support and the right doctors to help me acheive my goals.

Hi Deliah! I'm so very glad that things went well for you. I was at the clinic twice this week already and am going back tomorrow to meet with Erin and Dr. Sutyak. I talked at the 9am group today. Sandy always presents great information during her sessions and I have always gotten a lot out of them by doing the activities she suggests. Erin is very good and she cares a LOT about the people that come in. Was the year wait for the lap band only or the gastric bipass too? My appt. there is on Feb. 9th. When I first called they told me 6-8 months before surg. I am 2 1/2 hours away from there!!! Will I have to go every month for a year? From what I hear you sometimes need to go more than once a month too. Maybe COMP is not the place for me. I am not sure about the drive and scheduling appt. around work for that long. I do not know what to do!!! shelli
