Does Illinois Medicaid cover bariatric surgery?

I'm 2-1/2 years post-op, and it's changed my life. However, my brother who lives in the Chicago area must be over 500 lbs (he doesn't say), and he can no longer hold a job. His unemployment benefits are about to run out, and he'll have to go on welfare, food stamps and medicaid, I imagine. Does anyone have any experience with state health care in Illinois? Do they have a record of covering bariatric surgery expenses for those who are greatly in need, or not? I'd so appreciate any information or feedback you can give me. If you can even just tell me what the state medicaid program is called there, I can research their coverage. I just need a starting point. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out..... Hi Maryjane, Illinois Medicaid does cover bariatric surgery. I don't know what the program is called, however my surgeon accepts it. Good Luck.

Yes, yes and YES! Medicaid is AWESOME with approving bariatric surgery!
