OT~? for the Springfield area folks
Hi all ...
I have a question for the folks around Springfield... I need some quick ideas of fun things to do late afternoon/evening besides hanging out at the mall or going to a movie. "Prince Charming" as I shall refer to him is going to come to town Tuesday evening and aside from taking him to Monical's (because he grew up in IL and hasn't had their pizza in forever) I need some ideas as to what we can do.
Thanks in advance!
Hugz,
Cathy
I'm thinking, thinking.... you know, if I was still a wild-crazy single woman, I'd know all the tricks!!! he he he
Let's see... you can go bowling or play trivia at Sluggo's sportsbar at Strike and Spare West. Ummmmm.... visit the new Presidential Library (haven't been there myself even though I work across the street)....
Cathy, I'm going to continue pondering this and get back to you later this morning - I know I can come up with SOMETHING better!!!
There's also downtown - which has some nice shops to walk around to, the Old State Capitol, you can take a trolly ride (see info below)... I don't know if it's today that you're planning your outing, but it might be too chilly.
The Dana-Thomas house is beautiful - have you been through there? "Christmas at the Dana-Thomas House (Dec 1-31)
A celebration/re-creation of Susan Lawrence Dana's first Christmas at her new Frank Lloyd Wright designed home. Wright completed the house in 1904, & hosting a number of parties throughout the month marked Mrs. Dana's first Christmas. The 35-room mansion will be decorated extensively & live music will be heard in the house each weekend afternoon."
Dana Thomas house also has art exhibits in it!
There is also the IL State Museum - here's there current thing going on - never heard of her: Carolyn Plochmann: Between Two Worlds" Art Exhibition (Nov 21 - Feb 27)
The Illinois State Museum presents this solo exhibition of paintings by a nationally known southern Illinois artist, Carolyn Plochmann. It includes a selection of work spanning Plochmann's 60-year career. Funded in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a State agency.
Springfield Trolley -- An old-fashioned, open-air trolley (closed and heated in the winter) with regular stops at the major historic attractions. Tickets sold at several downtown locations. For a list of stops, ticketing locations and days of operation, call (800) 545-7300 or (217) 789-2360.

WOW Katie! Thanks so much!
I thought of the Dana Thomas house but my computer was acting freaky last night and couldn't access their website - darn java apps
I'd love to do some of the touristy downtown type of things but it is really cold today plus he's not even going to get here until 4-ish because he's got to do lunch with his parents.
Do you know if the zoo is doing the lights thing this year? I thought someone mentioned that to me once a while back. I've never been out there. I might just have to give them a call.
Again, thank you so very much for the great ideas! I'm sure we'll have fun whatever we do!
