Wanted to ask everyone a ?
Actually, an ABG (arterial blood gas) is invasive. Its where they take blood from the underside of your wrist. It can hurt because that area is very innervated. But the guy that did mine pre op (usually ordered for asthmatics, etc pre op) did a great job and it didnt hurt any more than a regular draw. Its totally different from pulse ox, which is what is described in the post above.
I may have had one, I think my doc does require it, so with that in mind, if I did get one, it didnt feel any different than a regular blood draw, which I got p-l-e-n-t-y of while I was in the hospital.
A little off topic, but my experience was good post surgery.
No pain, just uncomfortable, no gas at all and I didnt even need to fill the Rx for my pain meds when I went home because I didnt need them.
Although I sneezed a week after surgery and pulled a stomach muscle, that hurt for a little while.
So there is still hope that you could have a semi-pain-free surgery.
Good luck!!
