Help My mom's boss is a JERK!

My mom called me in tears because her boss wont let her haev the day of my surgery off. My mom never ever calls in sick and has personal and vacation days... and they still wont let her use them. The Family Medical Leave won't work because I'm over 18! Can anyone think of anything else to help her get the day off.

well.. I don't know what she does for a living.. but maybe they can't let her take the day off because it's so close to the holidays and too many people are already scheduled off that day? Maybe she can talk to someone who already has the day scheduled off and offer to trade them for one of her prime days off in exchange? I'm sure if she explains why, someone would be nice enough to switch with her. good luck! Stef

She works for headstart, she is a teacher and drives a school bus. They told her that she couldn't have the day because too many people have been calling in sick lately, even though she's never called in sick. Thanks for your help. Brooke

well I would imagine there are a lot of sick kids passing things like the Flu around.. I know it doesn't help to hear that but it's a legitimate concern.. it's not about your mom never calling in sick.. it's that other people are probably legitimately sick (especially with the flu vaccine shortage) and they need drivers.. I would still recommend she check around and see if anybody has that week off already.. maybe if she talked to them, they could agree to take her shift on that day and she'd take a day they needed later? I told her that too, but the boss is so crazy she is afraid she would get fired.

I thought bus drivers are hard to get I think her boss would be stupid to fire a good bus driver for missing aday. Where are you having surgery? I see you are not far from me. Leslie

I'm having surgery in Belivdere which is about 30 minutes from where I live, but my mom lives in Oquawka which is right on the border of Iowa and about three hours from DeKalb. I think her boss would be stupid too actually I said those words to my mom "Do you really think they could afford to lose you". She's still scared though. I tried to reassure her that I will be ok for that day... and in fact I'll probably be really drugged up and not know much of who was there anyway. Thanks Brooke

Brooke, If you read the FMLA, there is no where in there where the child has to be under 18, you can look up the act on line and print it and have your mom give it to her boss, they can be fined if the violate the law. Good luck with your surgery. D
