December 27th!! Yippee!! And I was approved by both primary AND secondary insurance in only TWO days! Wow! Is there anyone who had to have their gallbladder removed at the same time, but could still have the laparoscopic surgery? My doctor told me at my consultation that it wouldn't be a problem, but the surgery scheduler said I'm marked "open." So I'm wondering if I misunderstood the doctor, or what? Anybody have experience with this?

Hi Gail, I didn't have my gallbladder out but I would call the surgeon and get clarification. There is a big difference between Lap and open. Make sure everyone is on the same page and if you are going to have open, make sure you get all the details of what this is. Not the same as coming home with 5 little band aids. I am wondering, where are you getting this done? I know Edwards no longer does this procedure. Good Luck to you and let me know if there is anything you need. Take care, Kathy

Hi Kathy- I'm having this done at Central DuPage, with Dr. Spitz (who also practices at Edward). He and I talked about this lap vs. open thing at length, so I think it might just ******ror on my chart. The scheduler said she'd check with him. Gail

I will more than likely have my gall bladder removed when I have surgery. My dr said both can be done lap.

Congrats on your approval! I'm going hrough CDH too... Dr. Klem... my last appointment tomorrow as I tested positive for H Pylori so have to have the biopsy tomorrow and the scope at Edwards! Then I'll be done thankfully! Peggy

I had my surgery done laproscopically by Dr. Frantzides. He removed my gall bladder at the same time. Apparently it added just a little time to the procedure, but was otherwise no problem. Congrats on your date and best of luck!

Thanks everyone! I know Dr. Spitz told me before that both could be done lap. I'll find out when I go to my final consult Dec. 15th. Kathy- Dr. Spitz only does general surgery at Edward, he does his bariatric surgeries at CDH. He's the head of the bariatric clinic there. Edward has a bariatric clinic also, but I don't know much about it. Peggy- See you at support groups! Gail

Hi Gail I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery! I can't answer your question but it looks like you got a few answers above! I still have my gallbladder I asked but he just couldn't take it out! Best wishes to you! Hugz, Cathy
