Howdy! (long -- have I ever posted a short message?)
Hello, everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that my husband is home (Friday) and is doing as well as can be expected. He is very tired (the Vicodin, I think) and sore, but is walking much more. When he was in the hospital, he had very low blood pressure, so walking made him dizzy (I don't think the morphine helped that, either!) In addition, his pulse ox, which is always below normal, was usually between 85 - 90, even when he was on full oxygen. This combo of things made me really nervous about bringing him home, but Friday am his bp finally went higher (the highest in hospital: 112/55) and his pulse ox was 93 when they released him. I felt MUCH better about this.
He just started full liquids today, which is good, because the clear liquids were not doing it for him. He was not getting "full" with them, and his head was seeing every TV commercial and show as an advertisement for some kind of food...even ones that had nothing to do with food! He called me a little bit ago, and was much better. So that's cool! I have just been talking him through this, trying to be supportive...I love him so much! Sorry to be mushy, but I am SOOO lucky! He kept telling all his nurses how lucky he is, and I kept telling them how lucky I am, and they kept telling us that they were getting nauseaus!
I just wanted to write a quick novel to update everyone, and to especially thank everyone for their support and encouragement! I feel so fortunate to have access to the experts on this site, who not only know about the surgery, but who are willing to share. Even those who haven't had surgery or who don't know an answer are quick to give a pat on the back, a cyber-hug, or a slap on the wrist as needed! Thanks!
Jennifer
