I found out my insurance company BC/Bs of illinois PPO, is self funded, you must have a bmi of 40, or be at least 100 lbs or above, I have a BMI of 35.5, and have degenerative disc disease, depression. Now what do I do? thanks

www.obesitylaw.com I think...Walter Lindstrom. The NIH's guidelines specify 100lb overweight OR significant co morbs along with a bmi of 35 I think. Worth checking into. All bcbs plans are different, depending on your employer, btw.

Elizabeth, generally when a company is self funded they choose what they will cover and what they won't. Go to your HR department and talk to them they might be able to help you get that changed or give you a special allowance for surgery. Good luck!!! Debby
