Ok this may seem silly but I am wondering if anyone recently has been approved for WLS with IDPA medical ins. I have only seen people that have had surgery a few years back and I am wondering if they are still approving the surgery through IDPA and just how difficult is it to get an approval- I don't want to get my hopes up if they no longer cover the surgery.Any advise? I as well as a few others on the Illinois board have a medical card and are planning on having WLS. I'm not sure how hard it is going to be for approval, I've heard its not hard. But I will see. They submitted mine this week. They said it could take 2-4 weeks to be approved. We will see.

You will have your answer in less than a week if your dr's office calls. I mean, I can't say that for sure...I'm just sayin...

that would be great!! I'm getting sooooo antsy and its only been 3 days since I saw the nutritionist. Im not sure if they send the paperwork in or if they call. It would be great if they would call it in. Has anyone heard from Lori and if she's gotten approval yet? I cannot get my yahoo messenger to work.

Lisa I was approved for surgery in 5 days...Make sure you have all your tests done, make sure your Psych eval is done by a MD or PhD. My surgeons office did everything I never had to deal with the state... Here's what I did, I went to Dr. Fred Teisenga in Oak park, Go to his support group first, they will give you a packet there you fill it out, get your preop tests done then send in all your tests and packet info. Once they have all your info and verify ALL your pre-op stuff is done they will schedule your consult. The day of or the day after your consult they will submit you for approval. I had my consult on Oct. 13 and my approval was sent back to the surgeon on the 18th. I'm having surgery Dec. 14th. Now i could of had it sooner but I was working it around when my job is closed down for winter break. I work at a college. Good luck and if you need the complete list of all IPA providers I can give you that tomorrow its on my work computer. Debby
