If this isn't a "sign," I don't know what is!!

So I'm in the process of trying to get my apartment -- the den of CRAP -- into some semblance of order before I go into the hospital in two weeks. This last week's paycheck is my rent check.. so it's basically completely spoken for. Things are a little tight until the paycheck I'll get the week I go in. I was wondering how I was going to pay for some of the things I am needing. This weekend, I went through all the mail and old bills that I never opened (don't worry, they're paid!) and was shredding them for the trash.. Do you know, as I was going through all those things, I found OVER $300 IN DEPOSIT REFUNDS that I didn't even know I'd been issued!? I'm used to deposits staying on your account until your account closes -- then you get the refund. Well, apparently, in Illinois, if you pay a deposit on your utilities, they keep it for a year and then REFUND IT!! I was floored. Talk about a windfall! So I guess this is just another example of God lighting the path EVER CLEARER as I continue to walk! Thanks, Big Guy!! Stef

that is awesome!! I would most definately say that it is a sign. I guess I need to get in contact with my electric company. I've been here 5 yrs now and have NEVER recieved a deposit. My grama has lived where she's at for 16 yrs and was here 10 yrs before she got hers back. I think that totally sucks. I sure could use the extra money..lol

just to throw the info out there, I worked for a while for Comed Collections (sorry guys I had to do those evil phonecalls for 'da man') and the policy way back then (had to be 10 or 12 years ago) was if your account was paid on time every time for 12 months then they had to refund your deposit, but if you were late even by days they could hang onto it until 12 months of no lateness. Some utilities actually have to pay interest on your deposit too, as do some landlords in some states. I know in wisconsin our landlord had to pay us 5% interest on our security deposit and if they hadn't by 30 days move out they owed triple! We moved out of elk grove this past May and they took about 4 months to refund our water/sewer deposit and we had lived their 8 years and never been late though so it depends on which utilities and their exact rules. Yeah! that was another surprise! Com Ed paid me $0.58 interest!! I was so suspicious, I called the "if you have questions" line -- the guy was like.. "after a year, you get it back." I said, "with interest?" He said, "Yup." I said, "YOU GUYS ROCK!" Stef

Yeah back in our early marraige, our electric got shut off and we had to fork up $350.00. to get it turned back on. After like 10 years we asked if we could get it back and they said NO WAY you have to pay on time for 12 months and than you have to make a FORMAL request for your OWN money!!! And then they might think about it....Well we received our refund money back last month also only AFTER 13 YEARS!!!! It was definately needed, and I am glad you opened your mail before doing the shredding
