Insurance HELP!

I just go some information sent to me from the Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan, and they won't cover anything pre-existing for the first 6 months. There is also a waiting period of atleast 6 weeks before I even know if I am accepted. Does anyone know of this plan? Or know anyone who has had it? I just want to see if they make me be under a dr's diet for 6 months before they approve, that way I can be doing that before I get into all the paperwork, etc...... Or does anyone know of another way to get insurance? No one else will cover me, b/c of my weight. .. Thanks in advance for any advice... *~Kerri~*

I'm guessing you did not have any insurance previous to enrolling in this plan. Because under the Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Act (HIPPA): a group health plan or a health insurance issuer offering group health insurance coverage may impose a preexisting condition exclusion with respect to a participant or beneficiary only if the following requirements are satisfied: a preexisting condition exclusion must relate to a condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment was recommended or received during the 6-month period prior to an individual's enrollment date; a preexisting condition exclusion may not last for more than 12 months (18 months for late enrollees) after an individual's enrollment date; and this 12- (or 18 - ) month period must be reduced by the number of days of the individual's prior creditable coverage, excluding coverage before any break in coverage of 63 days or more. If you did have insurance less than 63 days ago, for at least a 6 month period, then they cannot exclude your pre-existing condition (based on their rules of a six month time limit). FYI, this is also the law that makes you have to stand 10 feet back in line at the pharmacy, and that means you have to sign that paperwork at the doctor to allow them to share info with the insurance company.
