Psych test today!
I had my psych test today which I thought was "interesting." There were 250 questions but all leaned toward "schizo" characteristics or manic characteristics. I expected it be more oriented toward weight loss and your feelings on it. Even during the interview process, I can't say we talked about the surgery that much. Is this the norm?
My PCP wrote my letter today and I'll be going to a nutrition support group tomorrow night. The lung doctor can not get me in til 11/5 so that will be a wait. I have to have an echocardiogram and H pyloric blood test... my PCP is getting me the referrals as I type. Hopefully, I'll get in quickly for those.
BCBS Wisconsin/ Compcare Blue tells me they need my PCP referral letter, psych eval, proper code, aftercare program information, current ht. and weight, and the type of surgery... so we'll see what else they throw at me! lol I'm expecting something but hopefully will be pleasantly surprised!
Hope everyone has a great week! P-
Hi, Peggy.
I can't really help you with the Psych test, my DH didn't have to have one, and I don't know what's normal for that component. Perhaps they were just looking for any psychoses that would make you nuts after the surgery??? Or they had no idea how to do a psych eval for WLS patients? I have no answers, but it does seem strange.
But -- I do have a question, if you don't mind sharing...
Who is your PCP?
I live in Lisle, and my DH will be losing his PCP as of Jan 1. I want to make sure that the replacement has at least one other patient who has had the surgery, and thus has some familiarity/sensitivity to it.
If you don't wish to share that's fine. If you don't want to post an answer here, you can email me through the website link on my profile.
Thanks!
Jennifer
Hi! My PCP is very pro weight loss... it was a concentration of his in medical school. He has recommended others for surgery too. His name is Patrick Towne on Blanchard Circle in Wheaton. Very nice guy and very understanding. His nurse Pam is on top of things too from what I can see. She had my letter sent to the BTC at Central DuPage the same day I asked... and called me to let me know. Let me know what you think!

Hi Peggy,
This is my first reply so I hope I'm doing it correctly. When I had my pre- op psych eval it was totally not what I expected. The psychiatrist asked me to count backwards by 7's, duh! I had a hard time because I was nervous. He also asked me things like- "the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence" and then told me to tell him what I thought that meant. I think he asked me in the last 5 minutes if I thought I could do what it takes to comply with the surgery recommendations. I wanted to ask him- well I hope so!!! I thought we would talk about feelings after surgery, coping mechanisms, food dependence, etc. Oh well. He was very nice.
