I am soooo p.o.ed right now!! I was hoping to have my g-tube removed today. With good intentions my surgeon tried to remove it, but......... the internal stitches haven't dissolved yet! So he deflated the balloon and said within the next few weeks it should just fall out. I don't feel "normal" with this thing hanging out of me! Laura 266/236/125

Oh Laura, I'm so sorry! Luckily my clinic doesn't do g-tubes for opens anymore.... I thought the drains were bad enough coming out (had 3 - one for the bypass, one for the hernia and one for the gallbladder)... I can't even IMAGINE having the g-tube removed. Please, try to get some sleep, relax (if that's possible). Katie Open RNY 9/21/04 380/358/175 -22

ummm, this does sound odd to me, when they removed my G-tube they had to pull out a good 5-10 feet of tubing. (felt and looked like a lot more) there is no way that could have just fallen out on it's own even after all stitches were dissolved. and it did hurt too even with the balloon deflated. packing the wound left from it took medical know how as well, so I would keep on the office staff to check it every week til they could remove it for you. You don't say how far post-op you are. I had my last hose (cannot remember if it was a drain or the G-tube) removed at 6 weeks and they did have to snip 2 stitches at the surface of my skin where it went in. My skin had already started healing very nicely at the opening and the balloon reopened that a little bit. I am pretty sure it was the g-tube now that i think about it because of remembering the baloon and that I got a few drops of bile that splashed from it and burned my stomach. that bile truly burns the skin (like a chemical burn) so as it comes out you can't just let it go everywhere, they held the tube end away from me and kept gauze around it as much as they could to lessen the bile contact. Again this isn't something I can imagine just happening at home with no one to help. I don't mean to scare you but just keep caling the office and be a pain in the butt if you have to. the doc's assistant was able to remove mine so I didn't even have to wait for an appt with the surgeon. just tell them you are not comfortable removing it or waiting at home for it to fall out.
