Insurance sucks!!!

I called my insurance company (Principal, Private Healthcare Systems) and talked to two different people asking their requirements for surgery approval. They both told me the same information. I got all information and made sure that the doctors office had everything. The doctors office called and they get an entirely different list. One of which is a six to twelve month medically supervised diet. I would have started that sooner had I known that they required it. Okay, I am done with my complaining, sorry.

Nancy, I AGREE!!!! I just found out today that my insurance denied my surgery for the fact that I haven't been on a medically supervised diet for 12 months within the past two years. I guess my other diets over the past 10 years in which I lost 80 pounds the first time and 100 pounds the second time (which I was at least able to keep off for 3 years) do not count for anything because 1) I didn't see a doctor on a monthly basis and 2) it didn't occur within the past two years. HELLO... shouldn't this be a indication of my weight loss/gain history??? Obviously I have a problem keeping the weight off. The reason why I have chosen to have WLS. (DUH!) What makes a medically supervised diet better than any other diet I have been on. My "MO" tells me that once I go off the medically supervised diet... the weight will eventually come back on. Surely, we can't be on weight loss medication the rest of our lives? How healthy can that be? (All rhetorical questions) Oh, and the best part, insurance companies will not cover the cost of weight loss medication. Can you tell I'm angry and frustrated. Sorry for the tantrum. I have decided that I am going to look into financing the surgery. Liz
