Richard, In a previous post, you asked which insurance I had. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois - PPO. I am hopeful they are going to approve my surgery because they issued a letter of medical necessity upon my initial application. However, this was not a guarantee. So I am still waiting for the official approval. Liz

Good luck, I have fought BCBS of Illinois for a year now and I will be going to Aetna at the first of the year, so I have to start all over.

Hey Liz, I receive the letter stating the surgery was a medical necessity. Is there some other letter I show be asking for? My surgery is next month, now I am totally freakin out. Please give me more insight. Tracy

Hi Tracy, I don't think there is anything else you should be asking for, just that you do all the necessary requirements asked by the insurance company. Anyway... I found out today that my insurance company denied my surgery despite the letter of medical necessity they sent. My insurance company, BCBS of Illinois, is a stickler for having been on a medically supervised diet for a 12-month period within the last two years. My Patient Care Coordinator that I have been working with at the CORI Centers thought they would approve since they sent the "letter of medical necessity". WRONG! Now I am really depressed because my hopes were high even though I tried not to get my hopes up. Good luck with your surgery! I wish you all the best. Liz

BCBS are real Bass Terds so I am thinking that anyone besides them would be nice. You can look up surgery approvals by insurance somewhere here on the site. Good Luck! Melissa

Sorry ... don't know how Aetna works, but you should be able to go to your surgeon's profile on here and see if other people with Aetna have used him before. Oh yeah, HI Cathy
