I went to my consult in Dekalb yesterday first I had problems getting sign in because my public aid card wasn't from Dekalb. So they were going tell me pay out of pocket. Then I go in see the Dr and he said that I'm to big for him do surgerie on. I need to lose 82lb before he'll do surgerie. So what should I do. Should I find other Dr. Thanks Ruth

Ruth I do not know what you weight but there are doctors out there that will see you at heavier weights. Start calling around!!!

Ruth, It's possible your doctor felt he doesn't have the facilities to be able to control the additional risks that are involved with surgery on a high weight patient. Maybe searching for a doctor in a city like Chicago would give you a better result? Don't give up!! Stef

Thanks for answering. After the information pack sent and everything, I wonder why they would try to not want to take a med card from another city. CRAZY because I am not in Dekalb and have a consult on Monday. They have my address and everything but said NOTHING about not wanting to take a med card from another town and I'm even further away than Rockford. Blessings, Katie

Ooops writing more. You might want to try Dr. Tiesenga in River Forest. He takes a medical Card. For more information you can e-mail me. Also I'm sure Biscuit Joiner would give you information on this clinic. New Hope Surgical. Good luck in your journey....Don't give up, I've been approved a couple years ago and still on the journey, Blessings, Katie

Hi Ruth! I'm sorry you had such a crappy experience with them. I know they are new to the whole surgery thing so this is a learning experience for them also. Hasn't that doctor only done like 20 surgeries? Anywya, I recommend Dr. Fred Tiesenga out of New Hope Surgical (wwwdotnewhopesurgicaldotcom) He takes public aid and they are very thorough and helpful. Melissa Lap RNY 8/31/04 391/334/190
