Opinions please!!!!!

My insurance company called my doctor's office (pcp) yesterday, wanting my last current weight. The nurse told her 227, which is not correct. I had been in the office two weeks ago and weighed 233. This puts my BMI at 40. Anyway - the insurance lady said there was a weight discrepancy and wanted to know what was up! . Also my doctor had written a letter which was NOT in the master file - it was on a desk in his office. The office manager was out of the office all day, so they told her they would send her something this morning. They called me in and got an exact weight (230). They are going to try and straighten it out this morning. My ? is - Did this ruin my chances of approval? Will the insurance company just automatically deny the claim? Thanks for your imput! Karly

Karly, I don't think it's any reason to panic. Your insurance company knows that sometimes things get confused (obviously, since they are confirming information). Not knowing what your insurance parameters are for approval, I'd say your chances are just fine so long as your Dr's office handles the situation the way they said they will. I would go in as soon as possible so you can give them an accurate weight (if you haven't already) and then contact BOTH your doctor's office AND the insurance company to make sure they got the information. My insurance company has been great but I did stay on top of it and I'm glad I did. I strongly recommend calling your insurance company and asking for a status on your authorization. If they tell you to call someone else, ask if they can transfer you.. they are usually able to help if you just ask. Don't panic, though.. get the situation fixed first, follow up to make sure they got what they needed and then go from there. Stef
