RE: consult questions
I have my consult on Oct. 4th as I said before.
I am making my list of questions for the doctor so I can
be well informed.
here is my so far list:
1. Do you do any kind of bowel prep or pre-op diets?
2. How does the Post-op diet progress?
3. Do you do the post-op leak test?
4. Proximal or distal? ( the bariatric coordinator answered this as proximal)
5. Does the hospital provide a binder?
6. What is the incision size you use? I have seen this vary greatly.
7. Will I have an NG tube?
8. Any visitor restrictions in the hospital?
9. Length of surgery time?
10. How long usual hospital stay? ( coordinator- usually surgery on Monday and home on Wednesday)
11. Will I be put on a ventilator?
12. What kind of blood clot prevention do you do?
13. How soon are you gotten up after surgery?
14. Is actigall prescribed to prevent gall stones?
15. Will I go home with drainage tubes still in?
16. How long will I not be able to drive?
17. At what post-op stages are the follow ups?
Can you suggest anymore questions I should ask?
THANKS and blessings,
Katie
Katie be sure to ask how much the nurses will help you get out of bed? I left the hospital with a small hernia because they do not help you out of bed. At least my nurses didn't. Also ask about a blow up air mattress that they can put under the sheets to help you with a little added cushion. I didn't have to ask they just brought me one and it was so comfortable. Other than that you just about have everything covered. One other thing I would recommend don't go out and buy a whole bunch of one kind of protein drink since your taste buds are way different after surgery...you might have to experiment and find one that's suitable to you and your pallet.
