How long will I have to be in the hospital?
I don't have my date yet and I am a newbie to this message board. I have been lurking for about 3 days and decided to jump in. I will be having my surgery (rny) soon I hope. I have completed all the pre qualifying tests and have my insurance okay. Now I am just waiting for the phone to ring. Anyway...I am having my surgery at Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove and my surgeon is Dr. Guske. How long (not specifically) do you think the average stay in the hospital is?
Thanks alot,
Mary
Mary I am still Post Op but I wanted to welcome you to the greatest support board on earth. The Illinois board totally rocks and we are just one big happy family.... !!! As far as hospital stays go it depends on which surgery (open or Lap) you have. So anywhere from 2-5 days.
Good luck and again WELCOME TO THE ILLINOIS BOARD!

hi mary, and welcome!
I'm also a patient of the same surgical center you're going through (different doctor there).
I'm also still pre-op, but my understanding is your hospital stay is estimated as 3 days to a week (on average) depending on what you have done, your health, how you react to surgery/anesthesia and any complications that might arise.
You could be totally different than me or anyone else here.. but from the Dr's office, they said expect about 3 - 5 days so they can monitor you.. then at least a week at home recuperating.
I'm very excited for you! I go see the pulmonologist tomorrow for the first of my tests.. and the rest are all in rapid succession over the coming weeks.
Keep us posted!!

I can't wait! It has been a year since I have started this journey! Now, all the pre-stuff is done and all I need is final clearance from Dr. Guskes office. I am in a state of happy, panicky, jumpy, nervousness. Then there is the totally unneeded dread that something will go wrong at the last minute that will halt this progress dead in its tracks! I know I am probably being a stupid nervous git , but I am so close now I can feel it. And I can feel all the really positive feelings coming from all of you extremely supportive people. All I have to do is take a deep breath and relax.
I hope you all get what you want, without delay or hitches of any kind. And, no pain (or very little!)! I am keeping my fingers crossed for us all!
Breath! Relax!

Mary,
This is NOT an unusual thing to feel at all!!
My process so far has been bump-free but that little voice in the back of my head still keeps trying to convince me that they're going to find a reason to deny me at the last minute.
*BELIEVE ME* you are not alone!!
Definitely keep us posted.. this is such good news!!
