I just wanted to say Hi to all of my Illinois board buddies! My computer has been on the fritz for almost a week now and this is the first night I have been able to access the internet since Wed. I hope everyone is doing great. I am doing pretty darn good. The past three days I have had bad pain on my right side that was scaring me, but my surgeons very knowledgeable nurse told me it is what is known as "phantom pains". I guess the nerves that were cut are coming alive again. She said it should last about 3 days and then I will wake up and it will be gone. Hopefully that will be tomorrow or I will be on the phone with her again. Also, I had my first "dumping" the other day. I ate a scrambled egg with shredded cheese. Mind you I had eaten this several times before with no problems. Well I ate it the other day and my tummy was not happy. I ended up throwing it back up. My heart was racing and I felt an awful pain in my chest. This happened to me again this afternoon when I ate a couple of ounces of butt roast, that had been cooked all day and was just falling apart it was so tender. I thought I chewed it very well, but maybe not. I was throwing up for almost an hour on and off and my nose was running! Needless to say, I think I will wait before I try any real cuts of meat again. By the way, I lost another 5.5 lbs! Hugs, Joy Perry Lap RNY 8/31/04 391/360/150

YIKES! Knocking on everything I haven't dumped yet. I've had some yucky feelings but I'm trying to be very careful. Congrats on even MORE loss. That is WONDERFUL!!! You're catching up to me! You keep on the right track. Your pouch might not be ready for meat. Meat is one of the most difficult things to digest. Just be careful! Melissa

You are doing great Joy! hang in there, every week that goes by you'll have less and less discomfort. eggs were pretty hard for me to deal with at the start too. try just having half an egg (with something like eggbeaters where you can go with a smaller portion) to start. I had more phantom pains from where my drains were than from the incision area. I had open tho so I dont know if that makes a difference. The nerves can take up to a year I think I was told to fully heal so don't be surprised if you get twinges off and on for a lognt ime, but if they are very painful or mildly painful but continuing past a moment or two always call in the office to just be sure. no sense worrying needlessly and that way if it is something serous you get it looked at sooner and not later.
