Question
Most centers require an informational seminar with their group, then a consult with the dr. then things go from there. Generally after the consult you will do any required pretests and/or diets if needed then wait for insurance approval then get date for surgery. It can take anywhere from 2 months to 18 months. depending on the dr.
Nancy,
Before I attended the seminar at my center, I was terrified. I didn't want to go in there and judge or be judged -- but you know, being in that room, the focus was so not on me.. it was on the doctor and nurses talking to us.. the information presented.. people were asking some pretty personal questions, too.. it almost felt like there was a kinship between us. I don't know why or how to explain that, but I sensed that everyone felt pretty comfortable (well okay, not EVERYONE, but most people) and there wasn't much judgement coming from anyone.
If you need someone to go with you, let us know! I'm sure someone is close by you and will be happy to go with you to hold your hand and help you feel more comfortable with the process.
Seriously. Ask. We're here to help!

nancy...it's probably the best thing you're gonna do for you! all the people there are going to be concentrating on what the doctor and nurse has to say. and everyone is there for the same reason...to better themselves and their quality of life. when i went to the meeting i was very selfconscious and really didn't want to be there. when i walked in, it was like coming home. i couldn't believe that all the people there were there for the same reason. the doctor/nurse were very informative. they talked to you not at you. the doctor explained all the different procedures available, their pros and cons. i saw several of the patients that come to the office i work in. just go. you'll be fine and it will be one step closer to a newer, better life.
