Who was your Dr?
Kym,
My Dr was out of Loyola Hospital. His name was Dr. Brem. I only saw him 2 times before surgery. He was my savior. Without him I would still be obese and unhappy.
My insurance would not cover Barix or Bariatric clinics. But since my hospital was associated with Loyola I was given the go ahead by BC/BS to see Dr Brem.
I only saw him about 4 times after surgery. It's been 3 years for me and I'm still losing weight. I slowed down after the 1st year.

I had initially planned on going to Barix in Belivdere and met Dr. Vaughn, I think he goes to Schaumburg, too but I'm not positive. He's an awesome doc and very personable and teaches new surgeons how to do the rny at one of the hospitals in Chicago. I ultimately ended up somewhere else because of insurance issues. Just make sure that wherever you go they have good after care too!
Best of luck to you Kym!

Hi Kym
I was originally going to go with Dr. Brems over at Loyola... but the day before my 1st appt. I got a call saying Dr. Brems was no longer doing bariatric surgery.
I ended up going to University Surgeons over at Rush.... I am so glad I did!
Dr. Deziel was my surgeon.... he is professor of surgery over there
Of course I'm going to say he is the BEST!!!

Dr. Heydari is my surgeon. He works out of Centerga Bariatric Center of New Hope in Woodstock, IL. Dr. Heydari has done about 135 of these operations. So far, I am very happy with the Center. They have guided me though all the testing and now the filing of the paperwork to the insurance company. I am hoping to get my approval shortly.
Kym,
My doctor is Dr. Frantzides out of Evanson Northwestern. I did initially have a consult with Dr. Boe @ Barix and I backed out of their program because I felt like a piece of cattle and not a person. Not only that, they insist on doing an open RNY and I wanted a LAP, which I got with Dr. Frantzides (you also dont have to pay a B.S. consultation fee). Barix also sat on my Insurance paperwork for 3 weeks and never sent it out. I am SO HAPPY that I changed my mind and went with Dr. Frantzides. Good luck to you with whatever you choose to do and if you have any questions please feel free to drop me an email!

My doctor was John Alverdy at the University of Chicago Hospital. I am very happy with him (and with the post-op support group). I do not wish I had chosen anyone else. Dr Alverdy has extensive experience doing laproscopic gastric bypass surgery and is honest with you up front about his "losses" (which are few in comparison to the number of surgeries he has performed).
I never went to the Wish Center or Barix clinic. All my medical issues are dealt with at the UofC Hospital, including my primary care physician. So I never looked anywhere else.
Best of luck to you, Kym!
