I have figured out that most people who are rude, don't really know that they are rude.... My husband always tells me how strict his mother was and how they were raised "right". I think she lacked in a few areas! RESPECT is huge with me and I try to instill that in my kids....she obviously didn't. If I am on the phone, he turns the TV up..WRONG! If people are sleeping, he's LOUD! He thinks that if the sun is out, it's time to get up! WRONG!!! He comes in our room while I'm asleep, slams the door, turns on the closet light and then gets mad when I tell him to GET OUT...WRONG!! I was sound asleep last night and I heard "Gooooaaaaallllll" So loud I thought I was on a field somewhere....he was watching TV (soccer) in the living room so loud...WRONG!! I would kill my kids if they did ANY of these things but he sees nothing wong with it...do you guys?? How can I teach my kids respect if Dad is RUDE??

seeing as I am 18 weeks preggo now I have really started noticing things hubby does that I refuse to let him pass on to our children. I try to very nicely and tactfully point them out and we discuss between us which is more likelky, I am TOO sensitive about that issue or he is too insensitive about it. we try to find the middle ground but definitely I agree with you, it will be very hard to show your kids a good example of respect and thoughtfulness and proper behavior if Dad is a boorish clod right next to you. you two have to be in agreement tho and not bickering about it in front of the kids or the message won't come across either. try to talk to hubby and point out what this will mean if your kids are raised to be rude or insensitive. other kids notice that, especially in teen years and in adult life, how will they be seen by others when it is time to date? no parent wants their kid to be the belcher/farter/nose picker kid. maybe he can try to adapt a little *****oose the worst offending things and just have him try to work on those instead of just giving up. Being rude......how would you define that? I say the things your husband does are inconsiderate, not rude. Rude is when an old bat at the grocery store hits you head on with her cart and says "Mame, please". PLEASE WHAT? No sorry. No excuse me. Nothing. Rude is assuming because I look spanish that I speak the language. You know what they say about assuming! Take your husband to the side and let him know that his inconsideration of others does not show a good example to his children. Yes my children are taught politeness and respect to a point. You need to give respect to get respect, and vise versa. Laura

I get the opposite, they think that because I'm white, I can't speak Spanish.. We went to a Mexican restaurant the other day, I order in Spanish to the Mexican waitress (after she took my husband's order IN SPANISH) and she goes "Oh wow, you speak Spanish" I look up at her and say "Oh my God, do you realize that you are speaking English, Maria?" Yeah, I was rude, but....she started it!! HA!
