Memory Loss Anyone?

I am one year post-op and shortly after my surgery I started to have some memory loss. I talked with my surgeon and thought maybe someone else had this problem and he said no one had brought it up. I thought maybe a vitamin or nutrient defiency might be the cause but all my labs have come back okay. I have an appointment with the SIU memory clinic on the 23rd. I can't wait since my memory loss is progressing. I was just wondering if anyone else here on these boards have experienced any of this problem? :-l

Maybe.....But I don't know if it is because I am so much more active now and just not taking the time to think about what I need to do.

Ramona I have a problem with memory loss but only when my thyroid is off. I have hypothyroid and one of the side effects is that I can get a bit flaky ok flakier than normal when I am suffering from a spike... My co-workers have even learned to recognize it and tell me "hey get your blood checked your forgetting more than normal" So maybe thats something to have checked... now before you rush off ot your PCP you need to investigate it a bit.. go to webmd.com one doc's idea of normal TSH is another doc's idea of high or low. If you want to feel really secure go to a Endocrinologist. they are the authority on the thyroid... Now if you have had it checked and feel comfortable with the count then NEVERMIND!

Thanks to all of you that replied..I have had my thryoid checked and it seems to be okay. Just had a bunch more labs done yesterday and we'll see what that shows too. The memory clinic will do extensive testing to pinpoint the problem. (I hope anyway) My PCP suspects it may be fibromyalgia. I can't remember things I've told my husband, or things we have talked about. Phone numbers and my husband has to double check my checkbook for me since I tend to write down deposits twice Thanks again for all the input it does help alot.

Hi Ramona, Don't discount the memory loss possibility as a side effect of your antesthesia. It is more common than you might expect. Check it out with your doctor and good luck. Cathy RNY 7/26/04
