One thing you cannot wait to do after weightloss.
I am having surgery on August 10th. (OMG)
I have been researching this for a few years. My mother was interested in it, then when it fell through for her, I put it on a back burner...but got serious again last year. So, quite a long time.
I want to lose anywhere from 100-130 pounds. Depends where my body will be comfortable.
I have lost SQUAT. But I haven't been trying and wasn't required to lose any before surgery.
Worries? That I will have a complication of some sort. That I won't be able to make this work...lots of worries if I think about it.
One thing I can't wait to do, is fit in normal sized clothes again.
Well, let's hear from you other Pre-ops!

I have contacted my insurance company to see if they cover this surgery. Then I made an appointment with my PCP to get a referral letter. I'll be seeing my PCP next week.
How long you have been thinking about WLS?
I originally started researching this back in the late 90's. At that time I decided I was going to beat the odds and lose the weight w/o surgery. Yeah... well here we are in 2004 and now I'm convinced I need this.
How much you want to lose?
I'd like to lose 125 pounds. I don't know if that's possible for me but it sure would be great!
How much you have lost so far if any?
Not an ounce recently. Since I'll probably have to go on a six month dr supervised diet, I'll likely try to lose a few pounds at least. Not too many though. My BMI might get too low.
Any worries?
I'm a single mom. I'm worried that I'll die and leave my baby w/no parents at all. Also that I'll lose the weight but won't be able to keep it off or that I won't lose the weight at all. I've never made it to goal before in my life.

Date: September 2. Waiting for insurance approval.
How long you have been thinking about WLS?
For the last 2 years. Did my research and then approached my PCP this past May.
How much you want to lose?
About 135 pounds. Hopefully ATLEAST 80 pounds by the end of February, that's my 35 birthday and I want a 70's theme party.
How much you have lost so far if any?
None. I have 20 days until my weigh in. I have to be on Boost HP x2 daily and cooked protein w/ veggies x1 daily. I moved my treadmill into the sunroom from the garage so I can start walking and building up my endurance. Oh, I also had my husband fix my bike so I can start riding.
Any worries?
Trying to think positive at this point in time.

I had my appointment with Dr. Eagan on July 13 and waiting for them to submit the paperwork to insurance for pre approval. I have already contacted the insurance company 4 times, each time they said "YES, it is covered"
How long you have been thinking about WLS.
My mother started looking into it about 2 and half years ago and I did research with her. I wanted to know what she was getting into. She weighs about 400 pds and she is almost 60 and she is having problems finding someone to do it. Most of my family lives in Ohio and I went to home to visit, my brother remarked "you look more and more like mom everytime I see you". Even though I love my mother to death, I don't want to weigh 400 pounds. I suggested it to my primary care and he thought it was a great idea since he and I had been working on my weight for 9 months prior.
How much you want to lose? I want to lose about 130-150 pds
How much you have lost so far if any?
I lost about 15 over the last 12 mounths.
Any worries? None, I have a great support group and a great family that is behind me 100%. I also feel that my time to go is already picked out and whether I am eating a piece of chicken, walking down the street or having surgery God is going to take me. That gives me a sense of piece to try new things and not be afraid of the unknown.
One thing you cannot wait to do after weightloss.
Go to Cedar Point without the attendant asking me to sit in the seat to make sure I can fit on the ride.
I am not certain about the physician's in Ohio. However, Dr. Constantine Frantzides will operate on older patients and has operated on patients weighing as much as 700 pounds laproscopically. He has a pleasant demeanor and is extremely positive.
The hospital stay would probably be two days. There are a number of lodging options available to suit all budgets. Perhaps you should have her contact him to see if it's possible. He has a wonderful staff, including a nurse and insurance coordinator that have had the procedure themselves.
Best of luck to you and your mom!

One thing you cannot wait to do after weightloss
* My surgery date is on 8-23, 2 weeks from today!
* I have been thinking about WLS for 2 and a half years. I was approved for it a year and a half ago but chickened out thinking I could do it on my own. I lost about 50 pounds and gained 70 back over the course of a year.
* I want to lose between 160-180 pounds. My "ideal" weight for my height is 160 pounds. (i'm 5 ft 11)
* I have 3 pounds so far, it's funny though, I thought I had gained weight but actually lost 3 pounds, I think it's nerves.
* I worry about blood clots and pneumonia, mostly surgery related things.
I also worry about complications in general, I hope I don't have any!
* I cannot wait to go out with my friends to normal clothing stores and get hit on by multitudes of men, call me shallow but it's true. I also want to be able to jog long distances, and feel good about it.
