Could anyone help me with getting approved with BC/BS of Illinois? I am a patient of Dr. Alverdy's and thinking of changing to the Wish Center. I heard they work with BC/BS insurance. Thanks Cheryl

Call this number 1-800-533-1120 and push prompts 2-5-4-4-2 and ask them what info your policy requires you to get from the DR.'s office. They most likely will say CPT Code, Height, Weight and BMI. I just went through this with them, what ever they tell you make sure you get it. Also, hang up and call that number back and press prompts 2-5-4-4-1 and have them start a precert. file on you. That will have to be done before your paperwork gets there. Also, if you have a fax get the fax number to where they are so it can be approved faster. Mine took 24 hrs to be approved and 7 days to get Letter. If that Phone number does not work for you then call member services and ask for the number to the case management people who approve surgeries. Make sure you are talking with an RN when getting the info. Good Luck

It depends on what type of BC/BS you have. HMO/PPO? I have a HMO and they told me that it is the medical group that you belong to that makes the decision, not the insurance co. I was told all I need is a letter of medical necessity and my PCP's referral. Good luck. Stay on top of it. Keep calling and make sure you write down names and dates. Laura

I have bcbs out of Virgina with my employer. But I was told by the RN that they do the approvals for bcbs everywhere. If she was not telling the truth hopefully you can get the number for your case management RN. ALSO IT IS A PPO Larry.
